TER GROENE POORTE - PHOTOGRAPHY FOR DRUNCH MAGAZINE

Paul Van Damme – Coördinator Communication

Continuing the rebranding of Ter Groene Poorte, we have been working towards producing a new magazine. I contacted Chris again after a successful collaboration in 2014. We wanted to do an interview with our two ex-students Sergio Herman and Dominique Persoone. I was convinced Chris could deliver us some high quality, striking photography for the front cover and the article itself.

“Another perfect collaboration with perfect results.”

Project

The brief was to create a photo involving both Sergio Herman and Dominique Persoone. It needed to show a playful comradery between both of them but still keep a dramatic look. I prepared for a long time to get the shoot done in the 15 minutes I was given.

Lighting

The lighting was quite simple but fiddly. I used 2 key lights with RFi 1×4′ soft boxes and added the optional honeycombs to give a narrow beam of light. Because of that narrow beam, everything and everyone had to be in the perfect position so not to block the light hitting their faces.

Editing

The editing was quite straightforward but the hands were taken from another shot and repositioned to fit the design of the front cover. Knowing where the text had to be, I darkened off the picture so the text would be easily readable.
