FEP Professional Photographer Of The Year Awards – Fashion Category Silver Winner

I had an idea for a while to portray a girl with very long hair as if she was standing in the wind. I found a model with a unique look, very long hair and used a friend’s hot air balloon fan to bring my ideas to live. The fan used was petrol driven; I had to set-up a mobile studio in my garage so my apartment wouldn’t be blown to bits. Being a freezing cold day and the noise of the fan added to the surreal experience.

Because of the unpredictable flow of the hair I had to use four elements from other shots, the main one being the hair. I blended everything in seamlessly to get the end result.

I wanted to create an image with a natural, soft feel. Working with this set-up was a matter of hit or miss as far as the hair was concerned. I really like the expression on Bernadette’s face but unfortunately the hair did not quite have the floating effect I was looking for.
